Can you remember the last time someone bought you flowers and how it made you feel?

I can – they were from my husband for our wedding anniversary! It was such a beautiful surprise and made me feel very special.

Since being involved in the giving and receiving of flowers each day I love seeing the responses to receiving flowers and whilst they are all unique and individual they all share a common theme – no one is ever disappointed when they receive a fresh blossom bouquet!

So I did some research and it is well documented that receiving flowers actually does increase good feelings and a sense of wellbeing. Flowers make us feel good and have an extraordinary power to lift our mood significantly, increase feelings of life satisfaction and promote positive social behaviour. That’s a lot of power in a bunch of flowers.

"Common sense tells us that flowers make us happy," said Dr. Haviland-Jones. "Now, science shows that not only do flowers make us happier than we know, they have strong positive effects on our emotional well being."

And even more interesting …

It is also acknowledged that while women LOVE TO receive flowers, the effects are equal for men. "When it comes to receiving flowers, men and women are on the same playing field," said Haviland-Jones. "It seems that we all express extraordinary delight and increase our social behavior."

There is clearly something very magical about giving and receiving flowers and not just for the girls!!!

P.S. I can help you there …
